Wolves were once eradicated from most of their historic range in the lower 48 states. But thanks to a changing public perception about
them, gray wolves now roam again in several parts of the American west. Captive breeding has also enabled the red wolf and Mexican gray
wolf to return to the wild, though with limited success.
